	Всё в порядке (N. 3)	Everything's in order

1	Что у вас сегодня на обед?	What have you to-day for [on] dinner?

2	Сперва свежие щи с пирожками (1);	First, new cabbage soup with patties;

3	потом котлеты с картофелем, салат и сладкое (2).	then cutlets with potato(es), lettuce and dessert [sweet].

4	Закуски наверно есть?	(And) there are hors-d'oeuvres, surely?

5	Конечно, как обыкновенно : селёдка, яйца-майонез, грибы... ветчина...	Of course, as usual : herring, eggs (with)-mayonnaise, mushrooms, ham.

6	A икры нет? — Нет, не осталось; попробуем достать (3) немного на завтра.	— And no caviar? -- No, there is none left [(it) did not remain]; we shall try to get a little for [on] to-morrow.

7	Котлеты вероятно рубленные? Из какого мяса ? (4)	The cutlets are probably hashed-(meat) balls? Of what meat?

8	Из говядины, с луком (5).	Of beef, with onion(s).

9	Картофель жареный или варёный, на выбор (б).	Potato(es), fried or boiled, at [on] choice.

10	А на сладкое? Опять кисель? (7)	And for [on] dessert? Kissel again?

11	Нет; пудинг с варением; яблоки, груши, и сушёные фрукты. (8)	No; pudding with jam ; apples, pears, and dry fruit.
12	Перемените мне салфетку, она с пятнами (9).	Change me this napkin, it's stained [with stains].
13	Ложка и вилка тоже грязны; нож тупой и тарелка жирная (10)	The spoon and fork too are dirty ; the knife is blunt, and the plate is greasy.
14	A впрочем, всё в полном порядке.	As for the rest, all is in perfect [full] order.

	УПРАЖНЕНИЕ	EXERCISE
1	Возьмите ещё пирожок; вот этот, с грибами.	Take another patty; here is this one with mushrooms.

2	Я лучше возьму тот, с ветчиной.	I shall rather [better] take this one, with ham.

3	Сколько икры можете вы мне достать?	How much caviar (gen.) can you get for me?

4	Что можно пить? — Вино или пиво, на выбор.	What is there to [can one] drink? —Wine or beer, at choice.

5	Эти яблоки не продаются.	These apples are not to sell [do not sell thems].

6	Соус мне не нравится: он слишком жирный.	This sauce does not please me ; it is too rich [fat].

7	Эта скатерть вся в пятнах.	This cloth is all stained [in stains].

8	Это варение из каких фрукт/фруктов?	This is jam out of (origin) what fruit?

	ДОБАВОЧНОЕ УПРАЖНЕНИЕ	ADDITIONAL EXERCISE
1	Он нарочно уронил тарелку.	He dropped the plate (асс.) on purpose.
2	У меня ничего нет в тарелке.	I have nothing in my plate (prepos.).
3	У неё нет тарелки.	She has no plate (neg. genit.).
4	Подайте другие тарелки.	Put other plates (асс. pl.).
5	Хотите ещё картофеля?	Do you want more [still] potato(es) (genit sing.).
6	Я не хочу больше мяса.	I want no more meat.
7	Эти пирожки с мясом, а те с яйцами.	These patties are with meat (prepos.) and those (plur.) with eggs (prepos. plur.).
8	Эти яйца не свежи.	These eggs (irregul. plur.) are not fresh.
9	Дайте ей ещё яйцо.	Give her one more egg.
10	Дайте мне ещё яиц.	Give me more eggs (gen. plur.).

		Let's learn today :
	Как обыкновенно	as usual.
	Что, опять это слово?	What, this word again?
	Я попробую достать вам немного	I shall try to get a little for you.
	Есть разные фрукты, на выбор	there are various fruits, at choice.
	Впрочем, я сам ему скажу	as for that matter, I shall tell him myself.
	Он вероятно всё забудет	he will probably forget everything.

	NOTES - ЗАМЕТКИ
1	Щи (shtshee), plur. : the national cabbage soup; свежие (fresh) щи: with fresh cabbage; кислые (sour) щи : with sauerkraut. Пирог: cake or pie; пирожок: small cake or patty. Рlur.: пирожки. Instr. plur.: пирожками. — Капуста: cabbage.
2	Котлетка, cutlet or croquette, meat ball. — Картофель (from German Kartoffel) is always in the singular. — Сладкое is the neuter of сладкий, sweet and here means : dessert, sweetmeats.
3	Гриб : mushroom. — Икра, caviar (caviar comes from the Italian caviale); икры: some caviar (partitive gen.). — Достать, to get, procure, related to достаточно, sufficiently.
4	Рубленый: hashed; рубить, to hash, cut ((Hence рубль, the rouble, literally, a cut, or slice of metal). In вероятно, we find the вер of верно, true, вера, the faith etc... Мясо, meat. Мясник, butcher.
5	Говядина is beef ; ox is бык. - Лук (hard L!) : onion.
6	Жарить, to roast, fry; remember жара, heat. Жареный, roasted, fried; жаркое, a roast joint. Варёный, from варить, to boil (to cook something). Варенье (par. 11) : jam. — Выбор: choice ; выборы, elections.
7	Опять, again. Кисель - Kissel is a hasty-pudding of starch with fruit juice.
8	Яблоко, apple; груша, pear. Сухой, dry; сушёный, dried; фрукт, fruit does not vary in the genit. plural.
9	Салфетка, napkin; пятно, stain; пятна, stains; с пятнами, "with stains" (instr.), stained.
10	Жир, fat (noun). — Жирный, fat (adj.).
