～てもいいです/～てはいけません ~te mo ii desu / ~te wa ikemasen
 

A verbal te-form plus もいいです - mo ii desu means "you may do ...," which describes an activity that is permitted.
To ask for permission, you can turn it into a question sentence, ～てもいいですか - ~te mo ii desu ka.
   
   
きょうかしょ　を　みて　も 　いい　です　か。 May I see the text book?

kyookasho o mite mo ii desu ka?

  
はい、みて　も　いい　です 　よ。

Yes, you may.  
"Yes, see /even/ good be, yo!"
hai, mite mo ii desu.  
   
  To deny somebody permission to do something, you can use the te-form plus はいけません - wa ikemasen.
いいえ、きょうかしょ を　みて　は　いけません。

 No you may not see the textbook.
"No, textbook /object/ seeing /subject/ going-not."
iie, kyookashoo o mite-wa ikemasen.
